What
to expect during a Sports Massage
This
is a deep tissue, hands on, full body treatment using Swedish
massage techniques, pressure points and stretching. It is
an excellent aid to training for athletes from all disciplines. Sports Massage Therapy is not Physiotherapy, Chiropractic or Osteopathy.
The
treatment is tailored to your needs, the sports you practice,
timing between training and events etc. Runners may prefer
an hour spent on their legs, gluteus and feet; swimmers may
prefer back, neck, arms, shoulders; you may prefer a full
body treatment or focus on a particular area.
Pre
and post event massage
Nowadays
many athletes from different sports backgrounds use regular
pre and post event massage as part of their competition routine.
- Pre
event massage helps decrease likelihood of injuries,
enhance circulation, reduce excess muscle and mental tension,
warm the major muscles to be used, increase the range of
motion through passive stretching and stimulate joints.
- Post
event massage helps prevent stiffness and soreness,
reduce recovery time, identify areas of trauma through passive
stretching, reduce muscle spasms, metabolic build up and
lactic acid (lymphatic drainage).
